Nick Jack, the business owner of No Regrets Personal Training, based in Melbourne Australia, is a qualified CHEK exercise coach and holistic lifestyle coach. He has been in business since 2005 and seeks to improve the fitness of all Melbournians.

Jack’s list of credentials are impressive. They include a certificate III and IV in fitness, CHEK exercise and holistic lifestyle coach, as well as a Swissball and medicine ball trainer, a Tai Chi instructor, rehabilitation trainer and Pilates instructor. Just to name a few.

Jack has a mind over matter philosophy when it comes to personal training and improving the health and fitness of his clients. He continually strives for better results both in a personal and professional sense and aims to help others achieve their goals.

“I try to teach my clients to focus on how they feel, how well they perform and how much they have improved, as opposed to how good they look, ” said Jack. “When they aim to reach a performance goal, put in the work and then achieve it, their confidence and self-esteem grow to an all time high allowing them to do more than they ever thought possible,” he said.  “This occurs not only with exercise, but also in life. And most interestingly, their body begins to change shape and they start to see the athletic, fit person they always wanted to be.”

“I have been a personal trainer for seven years now and I have always possessed a great passion for all types of sports,” said Jack. “Having played basketball at an A-grade level for 20 years, along with tennis, football and cricket, and most recently, distance running and cycling have taken my interest, I have continually been looking to take my fitness to a new level,” he said. “However, It has not always been easy. I have sustained multiple injuries from my sports, which led me to become more involved with rehabilitation and strength training. This, along with my passion for sports, led me to the fitness industry.”

“Through trial and error on my own body I am now fitter and stronger than ever, especially as I have a well balanced lifestyle with nutrition and exercise,” said Jack. “Basically, I train smarter, not harder, and I look after my body appropriately,” he said. “Personal training gives me the opportunity to pass on my knowledge and expertise in these areas in order to help others reach their goals.”

“For me the most satisfying and rewarding feeling is watching someone achieve things they thought were impossible,” said Jack. “That is what motivates me and I strive to continually improve myself and my business.”

Jack believes the perfect work, exercise and pleasure balance in life comes from understanding yourself and know what you want out of life.

“It is really quite easy to know what is the perfect balance when you know what you want in life, said Jack. “However most people do not know what they want. They have no dream or vision, so it is hard to know how to find a balance in their life,” he said. “Knowing your core values along with knowing your dream allows you to find that balance easily. This is by far the biggest thing people learn when working with us. It is one of the biggest lessons I learnt myself when I decided to change careers to take up my passion. This is why we are named No Regrets.”

“Our mission at No Regrets is to help clients excel and achieve the impossible,” said Jack. “We are endless in our pursuit for a result with our clients. We do this by continually searching for new training methods and knowledge to enhance our services within personal training and massage,” he said. “We believe there are no limits, there is always another level to get to and in getting there, there should be “no regrets.” We encourage this philosophy with our clients as much as ourselves.”

Jack maintains his own personal fitness by following a personal training program himself that allows him to achieve better levels of fitness and maintain his existing health.

“I ensure I perform the following: 3-4 weight training sessions per week, Tai Chi most days for 5-10mins and I run or cycle 1-2 days per week,” said Jack. “I also eat according to my metabolic type, eliminate processed foods  and I eat organic foods most of the time. I get to bed by 10.30p.m. every night and I drink 1-2 litres of clean water,” he said. “Plus, I allow 15-30 mins per day of quiet time for me and live according to my core values.”

Jack has a strong message to deliver to individuals who are looking to live healthier.

“Be clear on what your dream or vision in life is, and know what your core values are,” said Jack. “Once you know this you are more than 75% of the way towards being the person you always wanted to be and you will attract things to you that achieve happiness,” he said. “Without a vision you cannot have a goal, as you do not know where to go or what you need.

When you know what makes you happy and what you need, you can see it clearly, and then  your dream becomes easier to work towards and you begin to fill in the blanks.”

“If you’re looking to improve your fitness then include resistance training at least 3 times per week. Adding muscle is the secret to a strong and healthy body,” said Jack. “We lose muscle in the ageing process and this is the way to reverse it and keep your body strong,” he said.

“There is a big difference with being fit and being healthy,” said Jack. “There are many very fit people in the world, but rarely are these people healthy. I know this for a fact because I used to be one of them,” he said.

“Too much cardio training speeds up your ageing process and makes your body think it is under stress it initiates the fight or flight response,” said Jack. “Your body believes it is being chased by a lion and begins to work in a catabolic state, meaning it cannibalises itself in order to become more efficient at running away,” he said. “The heaviest and least required part of the body it can offload in order to make you run faster is muscle.”

“To truly understand this compare the physique of a marathon runner to a sprinter,” said Jack. “Both have a small body fat percentage, but the sprinter has an appearance of being younger than he really is, has a lot of muscle mass and trains only 20-30 mins at a time,” he said. “Compare this to the marathon runner who has an appearance of being older than he really is, has hardly any muscles and has to train for hours.”

Jack says that nutrition is the basis to ‘good health’.

“Listen to your body. Your body is giving you signals and information every time you eat something,” said Jack. “Most people just do not pay attention,” he said. “Every time you eat food your body has a hormonal response.”

“The easiest way to metabolic-type yourself is to note how you feel 2 hours after eating a meal,” said Jack. “If you feel bloated, hungry, agitated, and jittery the chances are you have eaten too many carbohydrates,” he said. “If on the other hand you are feeling dull, overly full, lethargic, and have no energy, then the chances are you have eaten too much protein.”

“When you eat according to your metabolic type, you’ll be able to last four to five hours between meals and snacks without feeling hungry,” said Jack. “You’ll also have lots of physical energy and mental clarity, and be free of fatigue, irritability and other problems that commonly occur when you fail to eat according to your genetic-based needs,” he said.

“We are very passionate about our jobs and if we can help as many people as possible to follow a healthy and happy life then we will be one step closer to living our legacy,” said Jack.
