Transformed: Desk Jockey To Fitness Competitor – The Motivation Behind the Body

INSHAPE NEWS LIFESTYLE – Transformed: Desk Jockey To Bikini Competitor – The Motivation Behind The Body

Ever looked at yourself in the mirror and thought, “I just don’t like the way I look anymore?”

I think we’ve all done this at one time or another. The difference for me though is this time I was prepared to do something extreme to bring back that girl that IĀ once was.

See I was sick and tired of working my butt off in the gym day-in-and-day-out and not really seeing a great deal of change. Sure, I’d lost weight. In fact, when I picked up an old fitness diary I couldn’t get over the change in my size – an 86cm waist had dropped to 74 cm, a 99cm hip to 91.5 cm, and 64cm thighs to 56cm – but this was far from the gal who ride racehorses in her early twenties. Yet, that fit, super athletic girl is still here, she’s just covered by a layer of bubble-wrap that needs to be popped.

The Athletic Gal Inside Wants To Come Out And Play

We all make New Year’s resolutions right?

Well most of us do. But, usually, we make these in jest. They are just a bit of fun, something said on the spur of the moment. Some resolutions are a way of getting your friends to giggle as they suck on a champagne just before that clock hits that magically number twelve.

This year’s resolution for me wasn’t one that lacked conviction. I’d been thinking about what I wanted to do for some time (since the start of December šŸ™‚ ). I’d even read up on my proposed resolution in detail.Ā  So, as my husband and I sat around what we refer to as ‘our boardroom table'( a Kwila timber bar setting) because many a profound decision had been made here whilst sharing the odd ale or two, I told him that I wanted to transform my body back into the one that rode racehorses. I also told him that I wanted to get over my fear of being on stage, or in front of a crowd of people by becoming a bikini competitor. In fact, I told my husband that I was going to spend the next twelve-months transforming my body from a journalist – desk jockey into a kick-ass bikini competitor and create the best version of me that has ever existed.

How did my husband respond?

He was blown away. No, he didn’t laugh, and say, “That’s not possible. You’re too old (I’m 48).” Instead, he said, “Wow, I can’t wait to see what you do. Can I be your backstage assistant?” And that folks, is the reason why I married this man. He never once puts me down for my crazy, needing refinement ideas, he just encourages me to follow our mantra ‘Let’s Do This’.

That was all the encouragement I needed. We then sat at our boardroom table and talked about what I’d discovered thus far and how I would make this transformation possible. This opportunity gave me a chance to introduce BodyBuilding.com, a pumped-up, pimped-out, get lean and mean fitness group I’d found back in December 2017, and their amazing apps and IFBB fitness models Jamie Eason and Tabitha Klausen. My hubby and I also watched countless ICN videos, as well as competitor ‘big event’ lead-up videos, giving us a taste of what comp-life was all about.

With hubby on board, it was time to get even more serious about my quest. Next stop BodyBuilding.com for a serious muscle building, body shaping program. I settled on Jamie Eason’s 12-week Transformation program, which includes a nutrition and exercise program. Then, I kicked off in the second week of January.

Eating lean and clean and pumping-iron has never been so much fun. I’m in my element. I’ve also shed 8-kilos since I started. Going from 72 kilos to 64 hasn’t been difficult. Another bonus is, my hubby and I have noticed my body changing daily (yes my abs are actually becoming defined woohoo!) Bring it on.

I wonder where I’ll be at next month? I can’t wait to find out, can you?
