NEWS-IN-BRIEF:

During the 2011 AFL season more than 1,500 player injuries were recorded, with knees, hamstrings, and groins being some of the most common injuries on the sports ground.

Scott Howe, owner of Exemplar Conditioning and strength coach for the Sydney Swans said that due to the physical nature of the game injuries are common.

“The game is a 360 degree sport, so often the injuries are ‘tweaks’ rather than soft tissue tears,” said Howe.

Howe said the Swans faired-well during 2011 with a relatively small injury list and pre-season training for 2012 would enable the team to increase their strength.
